Overview
The Western Kingdom of Tannal.
Inspired by Medieval Europe (Central/Western). They’re a classic medieval kingdom, though less fantastical and more grounded.
In opposition to their Eastern counterparts, Moryos is a nation where religious customs are observed uniformly due to strict religious control. Instead of the varied pantheon of the East, Moryos has a dichotomous divine system, with a strictly “Good” deity Eion and their strictly “Evil” counterpart Ydon. Despite this starkly oppositional depiction, Ydon is often seen as the kinder, friendlier God, who uses their seeming mercy to tempt believers to commit acts of empathetic sin. Eion is characterised as strict, a punishing God who acts to enforce moral and legal purity upon their citizenry.
Nobility
Moryos’ state is closely tied to their church, with the King being thought of having the same Divine Mandate as the God-Empress, but on far more fickle ground. The King is depicted as the executor of Eion’s will, with an honorary title as the Lord Paladin.
The current king, Amund III (Dwemar), has been using this supposed mandate to extract money through harsh tax on the peasantry, while keeping his station among the nobility through tax exemptions through those he declares are blessed by Eion. These changes have become more and more extreme since the arrival of his new advisor. When previous deputy Asa Sinaeted died mysteriously, newcomer to the court Eima Ivilgui became suddenly close to the young Amund.
Moryos is an Empire rebuilding from a long period of decline. A series of famines and epidemics defined the reign of Amund’s father and grandmother, which Amund III blames on them falling out of favour with Eion. Amund’s greatest goals are to rebuild the Paladins, a holy force that were the nation’s pride in the days of his great-grandfather. He believes that increased militarisation and a focus on proselytizing will bring Moryos back in favour with Eion and lead the country back to prosperity.
