Fairfolk are a very social species, traditionally coming together in groups called “Courts”, and sometimes working together to care for their eggs and children.
Fairfolk are also notable for their masks, which are worn from the age of adulthood. Removing your mask or showing another person your face as an adult fairfolk is largely taboo, and is reserved for immediate family and spouses.
Masks are as varied as Fairfolk feathers with each individual’s mask being highly personalised, and they often make/get new ones as they age. These can be as simple painted wooden masks though most are sculpted porcelain masks. Wealthy Fairfolk tend to opt for metal masks, often cast in Bronze or Gold.
Fairfolk usually stand somewhere around 5'11 to 6'7, and have lifespans of 250-280 years on average.
Fairfolk are a tall, elegant Fae species, often sporting neck and collarbone feathers as a sign of their avian ancestry. These can come in many different colours, usually mimicking the patterns of local bird species.
For example, in a temperate area, they might have Brown, Black, and White feathers, like a Sparrow or Wren, while in Tropical areas they may have beautiful, chromatic feathers like Birds of Paradise.
Antlers are also common in the Fairfolk as a bizarre genetic fluke. This gene isn’t dominant, and thus doesn’t show in every fairfolk but a good many of them grow antlers, similar to deer. They’re more common in males, but females can grow them.
This is not actually a depiction of Fairfolk, we just have not created any art for them yet.
