What About Vanilla Boats?

Vanilla Boats have been entirely removed from Vassal. They are not craftable or obtainable, instead, you will need to make a Rowboat or a Sloop from the later sections of this guide.

How To Build a Rowboat

Building a Rowboat is Relatively Simple, Though it does require a bit of Iron, and a fair amount of Wood and Bamboo. To Start, lay out 6 Sloped Shipwright's Scaffolding in a rectangle, all facing inwards.

Next, fill each Scaffolding with Vanilla Planks of your choice.

After that, place 2 Oarlocks, facing inwards, on either side of the Rowboat. Once you do this, it will turn into a proper Rowboat.

Finally, you can place 2 Oars in the Oarlocks, and then sit at the front to row the boat.

How To Build a Sloop

Building a Sloop is a fair bit more time and resource-intensive than a Rowboat, but it offers a lot more customization, control, storage space, and speed.

To Start, lay out 18 Sloped Shipwright's Scaffolding and 6 Flat Shipwright's Scaffolding like in the first image below.

Next, like with the Rowboat, fill each Scaffolding with Vanilla Planks of your choice.

After that, you'll need to place 4 Cleats, facing inwards, all in the positions and orientations shown below.

And once you've done that, the main body of the ship will be built, and from there you'll see a small Hammer icon directing you to add materials to certain parts of the ship. This is a long process, so I will not go over each step here, but it will require a LOT of wood, a fair amount of Wool, and a good bit of Iron.
